Things You Need To Know About Treadmills Before You Choose One

After making up your mind to incorporate an effective workout session into your everyday routine, buying and using a treadmill will be the most sensible idea. When used properly the treadmill offers you a great cardio and endurance training. But with limited knowledge on the technical aspects of a treadmill and the wide variety of choices available, you are likely to end up with the wrong choice. Thus, mentioned below are the things you need to know about treadmills before you choose one.

Most dealers out there would preach that the greater the horsepower the better it is, which is completely a myth. A 2 HP treadmill will serve the best and is sufficient for any need may it be walking, jogging or running. Anything more than this would burn a hole in your pocket and anything less than this would be prone to frequent repairs.

Another important factor to be considered is the motor torque which should be directly proportional to your body weight. Both the speed and the width of the belt are mainly dependent on the need of the user. If the treadmill is used for a long run or jogging then it is advisable to choose a speed ranging from 0 to 12 mph and a belt of 18 to 22 inches wide whereas for walking, a speed of 0 to 6 mph and a belt of 50 to 54 inches would suffice.

A normal standard treadmill would offer 40% shock absorption, this combined with a good pair of shoes will definitely keep your joints and feet from injury. But if you are suffering from weak joints then it is better to opt for a costlier choice of padded decks to provide that extra cushioning.

A treadmill is undoubtedly a long term investment, so make sure that your dealer offers you a guarantee that it will work properly for a period not less than a year. Thus be aware of your needs and narrow down your choices accordingly.

Precautions to be Followed while Using Treadmill

A lot of people think that treadmill safety is just about common sense. This is true to a certain degree, but since treadmills have moving belts, it is still critical that you learn about some safety tips before you start working out on this equipment. Here are some precautions that you need to follow when using a treadmill:

1. Before you begin with your exercise, stand with each of your foot on the sides of the rails and straddle the deck. Carefully step onto the moving belt. Steady your balance first by keeping hold of one of the rails before you begin putting in the settings and program that you desire.

2. Press the emergency stop button in order to stop or pause the machine. This will immediately halt the operation of the treadmill if you ever feel that the belt is moving too fast for your ability, or for any other reason.

3. Do not just jump off the machine if you want to do short tasks such as changing the channel or answering the phone. This will compromise your safety. Instead of doing this and leaving the belt running, just press the pause button and continue with your workout once you are ready.

4. Just look straight or keep your eyes on the console display while using the treadmill. Avoid watching your feet because it may cause you to lose your sense of position.

5. It’s alright to hold on to the side or the front of the handrails if you need to catch your balance. But as much as possible, freely swing your arms. If the reason why you hold on to the rails is that you are scared of falling off due to the fast movement of the belt, then perhaps you should decrease the speed.

6. Wear running shoes when working out on a treadmill. Don’t do it barefoot or wearing slippers.

4 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHILE BUYING A TREADMILL

Treadmill is the most popular gym fitness machine, loved by people all over the world. One can walk, jog, and run in the privacy of one’s home or in gyms. It is the best cardiovascular exercise for burning maximum calories and for overall fitness.  In the inbuilt monitors, the heartbeat, pulse rate, calories burnt can be tracked. In this blog, we will see the mistakes people make while buying a treadmill. This will be helpful to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

4 mistakes to avoid before buying a treadmill:

• Buying off-the-catalogue: Putting blind faith in quality and performance of a machine can cost you heavily. Instead, read consumer reports of the equipment first. The consumer reports give a clear picture of the products. Compare the prices, when making big investments to make informed decisions.

• Not preparing yourself and your home/space for the equipment: Your treadmill purchase should not be based on a whim. Prepare a space in your home to house the equipment first, and prepare yourself to use it regularly. Also keep in mind that you will have to deal with whatever repairs and maintenance the machine demands.

• “One size fits all” approach: Nothing can be more disastrous while purchasing a treadmill than this. It is important to check the motor (2.25-4.25 CHP), belt, and electronic setup before buying a treadmill. A 22″ wide belt and 60” length is recommended for tall runners with a long stride and 20″ width and 50” length for walkers. Track cushioning protects the joints from the impact of the exercise.

• Overlooking or forgoing seller and manufacturer responsibilities: Many of us, in a rush to own discounted and/or cheap treadmills, decide to give up on after-sale services. This is a big mistake. You must ask for onsite, after sales service for repairs and maintenance. Every treadmill model should offer a motor warranty of at least one to three years.

Since you can check out different stores from the comfort of your home, you can browse different websites and also compare prices to find a vendor offering you the treadmill at the best price.

Contact a Treadmill Manufacturer: When there is no middleman between you and the manufacturer, you can easily save a lot of money. Plenty of treadmill manufacturers have their own websites or stores where they sell their own products even though they also sell through other online and offline retail or fitness stores. They also run good discounts and deals from time to time and you can get the treadmill at a considerably lower price if you plan your purchase wisely.

Buy a Used Treadmill: Like the purchase of all kinds of pre-owned products, if you buy a used treadmill then you can save a lot of money. Most of the people who sell their treadmills are in a hurry to close the sale and are open for negotiation. If you want to buy a treadmill and save some money, this is a viable option too since most of the people treadmills sell it solely for the reason that they have not been able to use it. You might be able to get a treadmill in a great condition at a fraction of the price of a brand new model.

Buy Foam Roller in Singapore at the Best Price

A good quality foam roller is essential in self-myofascial release or SMR, as it lets you target overworked or tensed muscles. It can essentially allow you to give yourself a deep-tissue massage without having to go to a licensed massage therapist. You use your body weight to put pressure on and release the tension from your hips, legs, arms, back, and other parts of your body. You can also use it to increase your core stability and balance. Foam rollers are widely available in sports specialty shops in Singapore but if you want the best prices, then order them online. They come in different shapes, foam types, and costs.

Determine how you intend to use the foam roller so you can purchase one that fits your needs. Will you be using it for tissue massage primarily, or for exercises such as core training and balance? A half-round foam roller may help improve your balance as you stand on it.  Physical therapists in Singapore often use this type of foam roller to enhance ‘proprioception’ of patients who are recovering from injuries to ankles or knees.Half-round foam rollers may also be recommended for elderly people as well as those with low strength and muscle tone. These foam rollers do not move easily when laid flat side down, so even those with little tone can comfortably move back and forth on these rollers as they grow more comfortable with using them.

Firmness is another factor to consider. Foam rollers are usually colour-coded according to their firmness, with white rollers being the softestand black ones being the firmest. If you are a beginner, go for a white foam roller. It is less dense and is designed toallow some movement between your muscles, your bones, and the roller while producing less pain and pressure. Go for a medium lightly-coloured foam roller if you are seeking medium pressure and advanced core stabilization. You can buy green or blue foam rollers in Singapore online. These rollers are the most commonly used types in Pilates classes. Finally, choose a black roller if you prefer hard pressure. Most black foam rollers are made of the same polyethylene foam used in white and light coloured versions, but are ‘closed cell’ and typically manufactured using high heat. This makes them smoother, less porous, and denser.

Different Types Of Chin Up Bar Available Online In Singapore

A chin up bar can be a good addition to your home gym as it can make it easier to achieve a simple yet effective workout. Chin up bars are used pretty much like the pull up bars you can find in a children's playground or at the park. Using this equipment regularly can help you develop upper body strength, enhance your stamina, improve your endurance, and tone or define your shoulders, back, and arms. You can find different types of chin up bars online in Singapore. Here are four of them:

  1. Removable doorway bars – These are leverage bars that are mountable on the doorway. For safety, make sure that the length of the chin up bar is just right for your doorway. Once you are done, you can easily disassemble and put it away. A removable doorway chin up bar might be handy if you have limited space in your room or apartment.

  2. Wall-mounted chin up bars – These bars can be secured to the ceiling or the wall with screws. Make sure you have a supporting beam for this type of chin up bar because directly mounting it on a drywall could be risky.

  3. Telescopic bars – A telescopic chin up bar can be compact or expanded, so it can easily be secured based on leverage. As a result, it is easy to install and removed. This type of chin up bar will not damage your walls, and it can easily be stored without taking up much space.

  4. Power towers – Also known as assisted tower bars, power towers are free standing chin up bars that come with a frame, making them practical for home gyms where floor space is not an issue. It provides a more secure option to do pull ups, as long as it is properly installed in place.

3 Things to keep In Mind While Using Workout Bench

A workout bench can aid you when doing certain types of exercises. Workout benches are typically classified as home grade (for your home gym) or commercial grade, and they are typically adjustable to ensure a perfect fit or position. High-quality workout benches are designed to be comfortable for weightlifting. Their solid and sturdy feel will provide ample support for your back and for your entire body during free weight training in any type of position. To make the most of your workout bench, here are three things to remember while using it:

  1. You can do a wide range of exercises with it – A workout bench can dramatically enhance the results of your workout because it can let you do different sets of exercises like the shoulder press, dumbbell bench press, pull overs, dumbbell rows, chest flys, tricep dips, concentration curls, and lying tricep extensions. Consider investing in a bench that can decline and incline, so that you can do more exercises like an upper or lower chest workout, incline bench bicep curls and one-arm lateral raises, and rear deltoid exercises.

  2. Use the ankle blockers – Some workout benches come with ankle blockers, which usually look like pads. They serve to block the feet to keep you in place while doing sit ups and decline bench exercises. This way, you do not have to worry about sliding down, and you do not have to exert more effort in trying to keep your body in place, and you can concentrate more on the exercise.

  3. Do not raise your feet up in the air while using a workout bench – This is especially advised to beginners. Doing so will put you in an unstable position and may cause you to lose your balance. Make sure your feet are firmly on the floor.

Choose the Perfect Dumbbell Set For You

Lifting weights will help burn calories and build your muscles. To ensure the best results, you need to pick the right dumbbell set to use. Having the perfect set of dumbbells can help improve your workout. Something that is too light will make weight lifting pointless or achieve minimal results for your effort, and dumbbells that are too heavy for your expertise could injure you. The key to choosing the perfect dumbbell set is to find the proper balance between manageability and challenge. You also have to monitor your progress. This way, you can easily adjust the weight as you improve.

If you are a beginner, it is recommended that you start with a set of five-pound dumbbells (but you can go for lighter ones like 3lbs if that is too heavy for you). Moreover, you should take note of the exercises you intend to do with the dumbbells. Start with light dumbbells until you have mastered the right form. The weight of light dumbbells usually ranges between five to 15 pounds (two to seven kilograms).

Determine the amount of repetitions you can perform with light dumbbells. If 20 or less is already challenging, then you are close to the ideal weight for a specific exercise. Consider dumbbell sets that come with adjustable weights. This way, you can easily adjust the weight as you increase your strength and endurance.

Examine the material that is used in the dumbbells to determine if they are good for your workout. Vinyl and neoprene dumbbells are recommended for light and aerobic exercises. Hex-shaped dumbbells usually have a rugged look and finish, with six sides to prevent them from rolling off the rack or rolling around the floor. Rounded dumbbells are the classic dumbbells with discreet flat parts on the round heads to stop rolling. There are rubber hex dumbbells, too, and they feature contoured handles and rubber coated heads to ensure a safe grip and durability.

Exercise Gloves Online: Choose the Best Pair for You

Exercise gloves are used for support and protection during rigorous fitness workouts and weightlifting. They prevent calluses and blisters, and that can result from repeated griping and grabbing pull up bars, dumbbells, and other exercise equipment. They also provide cushioning for the palms and protect your wrists from strain. When choosing the perfect pair of exercise gloves, you need to think about what type of exercise activities you do most often.

Getting the proper fit is critical. Exercise gloves come in a wide range of sizes for men and women, plus varying degrees ofbreathability and coverage. Your exercise gloves should fit your hands snugly so that they don’t shift around while you perform lifting and pulling exercises.

A new pair of gloves might feel stiff at first, but it will eventually soften and conform to your hands with use. They should not cause any pain or discomfort; if they do, they might be the wrong size. Look for a pair that matches your hand measurements. Gloves that are too big or too small can interfere with your movements and render you unable to properly execute an exercise.

Fitness and weightlifting gloves also come in different degrees of coverage. Most pairs are fingerless; the cover only the bottom of your fingers, your palms, and your wrists. Some exercise gloves are cushioned and designed to make it a little bit more comfortable to hold and grip a free weight bar, for example, or an exercise machine.

Because they should be able to stand up to repeated and prolonged use, the best workout gloves are typically made of hard-wearing fabrics such as nylon, neoprene, or leather. High-quality gloves can withstand strenuous workout without tearing or developing holes. Be sure to choose gloves that are washable as they will likely soak up sweat during your workouts.
