Ways to Exercise with a Chin-up Bar for a Stronger Body

Believe it or not, you can use the chin-up bar (also known as pull-up bar) to do many different workouts. For some, the chin-up bar is the ultimate instrument for some of the best challenging and rewarding workouts. The best part about having a chin up bar is that you can even install it in your home and like most other fitness equipment, it does not require much space at all. This makes it a great tool for gyms as well. You can install it at a place where there is just enough room for you to master its uses.

Chin Bars for staying fit
There are different kinds of pull up bars available, and you can do many different workouts using them. Single chin-up bars can be fixed between the support columns of doors. There is a wall-mounted variety which can be fixed on ledges and walls. You can also find wall mounted chin-up bars with sections in the bar that afford different grips.

Chin bar workouts
  • Pull-ups: This is a classic workout which impacts your shoulders and back. Test your strength against gravity and be hardcore!
  • One arm pull-ups: This is the ultimate level of bragging rights. Use one hand to grip the bar and try to pull your weight using that hand. You can use the other hand to grip the wrist of the hand with which you are holding the bar.
  • Chin-ups: Grip the bar with your palms facing you and lift your body weight up. This workout targets your biceps.
  • Knee raises: Grip the bar normally. Get your legs together and lift your knees to your chest. Repeat this in a set and you will feel the burn in your abdominal muscles.
  • Windshield wipers: Grip the bar normally and then bring your legs up till they are almost perpendicular to the bar. Move them from side to side. This affects multiple muscle groups for a strenuous and effective workout.
  • Negative pull ups: Stand on a platform (like a bench) while gripping the bar and use it to push down to the ground till your arms get fully extended. Instead of pulling yourself up with the first move, you will be going down. Then try to pull yourself up to get back on the platform. This helps build strength for people who cannot do regular pull ups. Regular repetitions will quickly build up your upper body strength and more on to regular pull-ups and chin-ups.

These exercises are extremely basic, but they are not easy. If you are someone new to the chin up bar, then you would need to build your strength first. Start by just gripping the bar and holding your weight for 30-60 seconds.

Buying Guide for Home Gym Equipment in Singapore

If you do not find time to hit the gym because of your daily schedule, then a good option would be to turn a space into your home into your personal workout zone. To make this happen, you would need to invest in the right kind of equipment. But before you go ahead and purchase any, you need to think about many factors and only then finalize your decisions.

Here is a set of buying guidelines which will help you to get the best possible equipment for your home gym:
  • Type of Workout Plans: If you are someone who is into weight training, you will need weights, dumbbells, and bars. Carbon fiber bars are much lighter than steel bars. They can also support more weight. In case you need cardio training gear, then consider getting one or more from equipment like a treadmill, exercise bike, stepper, rowing machine, etc. You could also get miscellaneous but useful equipment like push-up and pull-up bars, resistance bands, medicine balls, foam rolls, workout mats, benches, jump ropes, etc. Investing in good floor mats will help you avoid damaging your home.

  • Variety and Variations: Doing the same workouts daily will lead to stagnation and monotony. To tackle this, you need to keep introducing variation in your workouts. Your equipment should help you to achieve this. Variations can be for targeting different areas or the position, speed and resistance. For instance, you can set a treadmill for a regular jog one day and an uphill climb the next.

  • Space: Before purchasing the equipment, you need to see whether they will fit in you allotted space. It is easy to get carried away when buying gear. But if you are unable to use them all properly due to lack of space, it will be all for naught. Avoid purchasing unnecessary equipment.

  • Budget: Once you have decided the equipment, try to stick to your budget. You can either purchase the equipment from retail stores or get them online. Compare to see where you are getting the best deals. You may get better rates if you purchase them from different sources or get bulk order discounts. Almost always, you will get a better rate online.

The last thing you need while working out is good music. Get yourself some decent sound equipment or consider buying a set of headphones or earplugs that do not fall off. Once you have all your equipment installed you are all set to go.

  2. Wall-mounted chin up bars – These bars can be secured to the ceiling or the wall with screws. Make sure you have a supporting beam for this type of chin up bar because directly mounting it on a drywall could be risky.

  3. Telescopic bars – A telescopic chin up bar can be compact or expanded, so it can easily be secured based on leverage. As a result, it is easy to install and removed. This type of chin up bar will not damage your walls, and it can easily be stored without taking up much space.

  4. Power towers – Also known as assisted tower bars, power towers are free standing chin up bars that come with a frame, making them practical for home gyms where floor space is not an issue. It provides a more secure option to do pull ups, as long as it is properly installed in place.
